Their story
Black Forest Distillers is the home of Monkey 47 gin. Alexander Stein started developing the gin in 2008 with local distiller Christoph Keller, and it launched in 2010.
Production began near Lake Constance before moving in 2013 to an old farmstead high in the Black Forest. In early 2016, Pernod Ricard bought a majority stake in the company, with Stein staying on as a shareholder and CEO.
How it's made
Monkey 47 uses 47 botanicals, about a third of them local Black Forest plants such as bramble leaves and lingonberries, with juniper leading the flavor. The botanicals are extracted with steam in small stills.
