Their story
Blade and Bow is a Kentucky bourbon from Diageo, released in 2015 after about three years of development. It is tied to the historic Stitzel-Weller distillery in Louisville, which closed in 1992 and where the whiskey is now aged.
The name comes from the parts of a key: the blade is the long shaft and the bow is the decorative handle. It nods to the five keys once used as a symbol at Stitzel-Weller, standing for the five steps of making bourbon.
How it's made
The core bourbon is blended using a five-barrel solera, a fractional method borrowed from sherry and port, with the last barrel holding some whiskey distilled at Stitzel-Weller in the early 1990s. New whiskey of at least six years old enters the first barrel and moves through the series over time.
