Their story
Red Bay Coffee was started in Oakland in 2014 by Keba Konte, an artist and food entrepreneur with deep roots in Bay Area coffee and hospitality. He began roasting in a converted garden shed in the Fruitvale district, a space he nicknamed the Coffee Dojo.
From the start, Konte set out to make specialty coffee more inclusive, hiring and serving people who have often been left out of the industry, including people of color, women, the formerly incarcerated and people with disabilities.
Today Red Bay runs a public roastery in Oakland that doubles as a community gathering space and ships coffee across the country.
How it's made
Red Bay buys direct-trade green coffee from partners such as Sweet Unity Farms in Tanzania and cooperatives in Colombia, Latin America and Africa. All roasting happens in-house in Oakland, and the coffee is sold as whole bean and ground.
Why we carry them
We are proud to carry a roaster from just across the bay. The coffee is excellent, and the people behind it care about who gets a seat at the table.
