Their story

Ardnamurchan Distillery sits at Glenbeg on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, one of the most westerly corners of mainland Scotland. It belongs to Adelphi, the independent bottler, whose managing director Alex Bruce co-founded the project.

Adelphi's board decided in 2007 to build its own distillery, and Ardnamurchan opened in 2014. Plans grew over time from a modest output to a capacity of around 500,000 liters of pure alcohol a year, and the single malt has found fans as far away as China.

How it's made

The distillery's heat comes from a woodchip boiler fueled by timber from the neighboring Ardnamurchan Estate. In return, by-products like draff and pot ale go back to the estate and are pelletized into animal feed for its farms.

Adelphi was always about bottling things that we really liked ourselves

Why we carry them

This is one of the younger Scottish distilleries we follow, and it shows how a remote community can run a whisky operation in a circular way. A good pick for someone exploring beyond the classic names.
