Their story

Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen was a young Norwegian lieutenant who came to Cognac in 1903 to learn the trade. In 1905 he and his friend Peter Rustad bought an existing house founded in 1852, and he stayed in France for good after marrying.

The house has stayed in the family for four generations, passing from Thomas to his son René, then to grandson Christian, and since 2009 to Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen. Its Norwegian roots still show, and Norway remains its top market.

How it's made

The cellar master selects eaux-de-vie, oversees their aging in cask and creates the blends. Since 2015 storage, aging and blending have been done in-house across three cellars at Louzac-Saint-André. In 2016 the house released American Oak, which it describes as the first cognac aged in American oak casks.

Why we carry them

We like Bache-Gabrielsen for cognac with a family story and a few surprises. The American Oak bottling is a good bridge for bourbon drinkers.
