Their story

Bona Furtuna is the project of Stephen Luczo, who recovered his family's ancestral land in the hills around Corleone in western Sicily, and his wife Agatha, who manages the estate with him.

The farm covers about 350 hectares, much of it inside a protected Natura 2000 nature area. The Luczos set out to honor the Sicilian way of life and to support the local community through what the land produces.

How it's made

The estate is farmed organically and is home to about 12,000 olive trees, many of them native Sicilian varieties such as Biancolilla Centinara, Cerasuola, Nocellara del Belice and Tonda Iblea. Its oils are made from these local cultivars, including single-variety and blended bottlings.

Sicily is a magical place with a way of life that should be honored.
Stephen Luczo, owner, to Olive Oil Times (2018)

Why we carry them

We like Bona Furtuna for how clearly it shows Sicily's native olive varieties. It is a great oil for finishing grilled vegetables or a simple bowl of beans.
