Their story
Jack Fennell grew up in Texas and fell for Australian meat pies while living in Australia in the early 2000s. When he came home, he could not find anything like them, so he opened Boomerang's in Austin on Australia Day 2006. Lance McInnes, a fellow University of Texas graduate, soon joined as his business partner.
The shop on Guadalupe became a local favorite, and its yearly Australia Day party has raised money for Meals on Wheels. The company's slogan sums it up: Australian inspired, Austin made.
How it's made
Boomerang's wraps savory fillings, including classic meat and vegetable combinations, in flaky puff pastry. Along with fresh pies at the shop, it sells frozen pies in microwavable boxes that are ready in minutes.
Why we carry them
We like keeping a few Boomerang's pies in the freezer for an easy, hearty dinner. They are flaky, filling and a fun change from the usual frozen meal.
